Young dragons are relatively defenseless. They are born with relatively soft scales, which are shed and replaced with harder ones as the hatchling matures. Once a hatchling’s wings grow in, it typically marks the beginning of maturation. At this point they are often capable of hunting on their own and are usually left alone by their mother.

When 3rd Time's The Charm was an egg, he was experimented upon by the crazy scientists. He refused to turn, and hatched instead. This only frustrated the scientists, and 3rd Time's The Charm was put into a foggy trance to await another attempt. A week later, another experiment was performed, but this one went terribly wrong and 3rd Time's The Charm died. The crazy scientist, nonny, used dark magic to revive him.
