Young dragons are relatively defenseless. They are born with relatively soft scales, which are shed and replaced with harder ones as the hatchling matures. Once a hatchling’s wings grow in, it typically marks the beginning of maturation. At this point they are often capable of hunting on their own and are usually left alone by their mother.

Poisoned Love is much more kind than his appearance and name can say. Every night he will curl up beside the newest eggs, keeping them warm and protecting them overnight. He seems to act as if he were a guardian dragon, always keeping watch on hatchlings and eggs. Love especially looks out for his older brother, Nightrose. Nightrose has been known to poison hatchlings with his candy, so Love tends to bravely stand up against him, keeping curious hatchlings from eating the deadly poison. However much he goes against Nightrose's habits and his love to protect others, he still eats the candy himself. All kinds of Valentine dragons are immune to the poison, and it simply sweetens the candy for the breed.
