Aww... It’s a cute baby dragon. It has long toes, and likes to wander around on lily pads.

Young dragons are relatively defenseless. They are born with relatively soft scales, which are shed and replaced with harder ones as the hatchling matures. Once a hatchling’s wings grow in, it typically marks the beginning of maturation. At this point they are often capable of hunting on their own and are usually left alone by their mother.

Pat is a timid hatchling who usually shies away from any dragon larger than it. Since Pat is rather small for a young dragon, that means most of the dragons in the cave do not see Pat close up. Even the pygmies frighten Pat. Even though they are smaller, their hyperactive behavior scares the hatchling. So, Pat mostly takes food after the other dragons have gone to bed and spends the day hiding in the shadows, watching the other dragons, wishing to be brave enough to go play.
