Red Dragons are similar to typical story book dragons. They shoot flames, can fly, etc. However, they aren’t evil creatures as depicted in myths and won’t go around raiding castles, killing knights, or kidnapping princesses. They live in a variety of habitats, from forests to coastlines to abandoned castles, usually in warm climates, and eat whatever living creatures they can find.

Dragons are highly-intelligent reptilian creatures that—from a human perspective, at least—appear to live forever. Many different varieties of dragon exist, each with their own unique qualities, habitats, and behavior. Adolescence in dragons is usually marked by the growth of a hatchling’s wings, although not all breeds of dragons grow wings and some breeds have other traits that indicate the beginning of maturation. In Galsreim, dragons and humans coexist peacefully.

Young members of the Fireheart Clan with fighting prowess and discipline are often apprenticed to veteran Firewarriors and become Firescouts. They learn valuable skills, politics, and fighting techniques from their master. After the master deems the student fit to become a full fledged warrior, the apprenticeship is broken and the former Firescout becomes a Firewarrior.

  Remarkably, Tai is a daughter of the renegade Ignipotens, the very dragon who attemped to take Firequeen Firebreath's life. However, Firebreath does not blame or mistrust Tai because of her parentage, so Tai is permitted to live in the Clan. Tai is a shy and quiet dragon who rarely speaks unless it is important. Her fighting skills, which she inherited from her infamous father, are above average, thus leading to her becoming a Firescout, apprenticed to Firewarrior Coch'Tan.
