Dragons are highly-intelligent reptilian creatures that—from a human perspective, at least—appear to live forever. Many different varieties of dragon exist, each with their own unique qualities, habitats, and behavior. Adolescence in dragons is usually marked by the growth of a hatchling’s wings, although not all breeds of dragons grow wings and some breeds have other traits that indicate the beginning of maturation. In Galsreim, dragons and humans coexist peacefully.

Zahava is a solitary dragon, preferring to spend time in her cave alone. However she decorates it well, wrapping anything pretty she can find around the rock formations and creating a soft carpet of pine needles on the floor of the den, and this decorating and searching for the decorations in general takes up most of her time. She will, however, occasionally enlist Aki to help with her efforts, his artistic eye being the only one she trusts to help her.
