Dragons are creatures with nearly unlimited life spans. They can survive for long periods of time, and no one has found a dragon that has died of old age. Adolescence is usually marked by the growth of a hatchling’s wings, although not all breeds of dragons grow wings and some breeds have other traits that indicate the beginning of maturation. Once they hit adolescence, hatchlings change quickly, maturing to their full forms in only 2 years.

Dragons don’t communicate with each other verbally, but they will growl to scare off predators and frighten prey. Young dragons will emit an extremely high-pitched squeal when they are frightened. To communicate, they use telepathy with each other and to speak to other creatures.

Gold dragons are the ones most often killed by humans, who consider their scales to be extremely valuable. These golden scales grant them a high level of protection, similar to armor, and they use this to their advantage in battle.

Sunlight, being unfortunately raised by Tarnished Brilliance, somehow miraculously matured into a fine young male determined to change the world for the better, if even for just a little needed entertainment.  Sunlight harbours wild and impractical dreams -- such as learning how to mould flames into shapes, or changing the colours of clouds -- which he is determined to fulfil, despite the frequent and often amused suggestions from his siblings to settle down with his mate and raise a large family.  After much consultation with the kind Alpha female, Winged Nimbus, Sunlight decided to devote his time to assisting the Magis in their quest for magical knowledge; no matter how many dragons try to sit him down and give him a gentle yet stern talking-to, he adamantly believes that he will, some day, be able to learn and master ancient and wondrous magic in order to achieve his dreams, happily oblivious to the fact that Golds aren't famous for their control over the mystical forces.
