Young dragons are relatively defenseless. They are born with relatively soft scales, which are shed and replaced with harder ones as the hatchling matures. Once a hatchling’s wings grow in, it typically marks the beginning of maturation. At this point they are often capable of hunting on their own and are usually left alone by their mother.

Olympic Narcolepsy is a hatchling that is tired to olympic proportions. More often than not he sleeps through at least fifteen hours of the day though more often closer to twenty hours. He is rarely alert and the rare occasions that he is, it does not last long. Often asked about his condition when another dragon finds him awake, he has also grown very tired of explaining it and sometimes will fall right to sleep while doing so out of sheer boredom with the repetitive description of what is wrong with him. He doesn't feel as though something is wrong however. He has always been the way he is and it is very natural for him. Completely non-bothered by it, he goes through life in slow motion, enjoying the time when he is awake and dreaming wonderful dreams when he is not.
