Magi Dragons are, as their name suggests, primarily magic users. They rarely use physical forms of attack. They eat anything they can kill, which is almost everything. They won’t kill unprovoked except when hunting, although they may kill humans if in danger. Their strong magic makes them one of the most feared breeds of dragons.

Dragons are highly-intelligent reptilian creatures that—from a human perspective, at least—appear to live forever. Many different varieties of dragon exist, each with their own unique qualities, habitats, and behavior. Adolescence in dragons is usually marked by the growth of a hatchling’s wings, although not all breeds of dragons grow wings and some breeds have other traits that indicate the beginning of maturation. In Galsreim, dragons and humans coexist peacefully.

Esmeralda is one of many magi dragons who came to the clan to learn from the ancient Princess Delirium.

Esme as her friends call her is the only one of Delirium's students who is never confused by their teacher's antics. She is so sure of herself and her place in the world that not even the trips to the astral plane where everything is different and disorientating can shake her. She always makes ascerbic comments about her fellow students as she thinks Hermione's approach to magic is too limited and simple and Shmendrik's raw talent will be dangerous if not reigned in. If asked she will call all the other magis fools—even their teacher.

Underneath her harsh exterior she cares deeply for everyone, not only in their close-tied group but all dragons in the clan and will do everything necessary to protect them.
