Aww... It’s a cute baby dragon. It has brightly colored fins on its back.

And look! It has grown larger fins! It must be close to maturing.

Young dragons are relatively defenseless. They are born with relatively soft scales, which are shed and replaced with harder ones as the hatchling matures. Once a hatchling’s wings grow in, it typically marks the beginning of maturation. At this point they are often capable of hunting on their own and are usually left alone by their mother.

NPCJR. likes to play hero in the woods outside of Lloyprij, but when real monsters come out, he is smart enough to run away as fast as he can, usually dropping his wooden sword, pirate hat, and rabbit plushie in the process. When real adventurers come through town, he begs them to go into the woods to rescue his precious toys. Oftentimes, the fearsome monster which scared him away is a behemoth, a common herbivore known for having short tempers and excessively-spikey carapaces. Other times, a dark green dragon or some other miscellaneous predator has taken possession of the toys. Anyone who returns his toys is rewarded with a free night at the Dorsal Inn. NPCJR.'s legal guardian owns the place, but since there are no good educational facilities in the Madder Jungle, NPCJR. spends the school year in Lloyprij instead.
