Magi Dragons are, as their name suggests, primarily magic users. They rarely use physical forms of attack. They eat anything they can kill, which is almost everything. They won’t kill unprovoked except when hunting, although they may kill humans if in danger. Their strong magic makes them one of the most feared breeds of dragons.

Dragons are highly-intelligent reptilian creatures that—from a human perspective, at least—appear to live forever. Many different varieties of dragon exist, each with their own unique qualities, habitats, and behavior. Adolescence in dragons is usually marked by the growth of a hatchling’s wings, although not all breeds of dragons grow wings and some breeds have other traits that indicate the beginning of maturation. In Galsreim, dragons and humans coexist peacefully.

Ilya Magesta is currently a proud member of the Goldenmage Assembly, but began her time there feeling like such an outsider that she soon asked to leave.  After much pleading, she was grudgingly allowed to go to Dragonhaven Island to help Norivan with his work.  Ilya quickly fell in love with the shy magi, and while Norivan didn't quite return her feelings, the two did become very close friends.  While Ilya was happy at Dragonhaven Island, she still felt out of place, not being interested in the island's many foundlings or in community life, and reluctantly decided to leave.

When Ilya returned to the Goldenmage Assembly, she found that with the appointment of a new leader, Tynef, she finally felt like she belonged there.  Ilya is finally allowed to do what she loves best—read and catalog faded scrolls and dusty memory crystals—without being required to regularly challenge other magi dragons to keep her position.  She even has a mate who shares her interests—the scholarly Ilnejal.
