Young dragons are relatively defenseless. They are born with relatively soft scales, which are shed and replaced with harder ones as the hatchling matures. Once a hatchling’s wings grow in, it typically marks the beginning of maturation. At this point they are often capable of hunting on their own and are usually left alone by their mother.

Twinkling Eyes is a very vigilant hatchling that seems to need to be in everyone's business, even if they don't want it to be involved. Its magic powers are rudimentary at its stage in life, but it is capable of levitating small objects like rocks and pebbles. This comes as an annoyance for the dragons whose hoards Twinkling Eyes seeks to disturb, though it only means to be playful.
