Aww... It’s a cute baby dragon. Unlike the other hatchlings, this one hatched with wings.

And look! Its back legs have become a second set of wings! It must be close to maturing.

Young dragons are relatively defenseless. They are born with relatively soft scales, which are shed and replaced with harder ones as the hatchling matures. Once a hatchling’s wings grow in, it typically marks the beginning of maturation. At this point they are often capable of hunting on their own and are usually left alone by their mother.

Bluemage, though a skywing, is convinced he possesses magical powers. This is only because once, as he pretended to summon a storm as only gray dragons can, Semere thought it might be funny to play a trick on him. She caused a small cloud to appear above Bluemage and sprinkle him with rain. This surprised and scared him so badly he shot back to the cave, without even noticing Semere, and began at once spreading the news he was gifted magically. Semere made it a habit to follow him around and cause mini storms whenever the skywing tries out his "conjuring."
