Dragons are creatures with nearly unlimited life spans. They can survive for long periods of time, and no one has found a dragon that has died of old age. Adolescence is usually marked by the growth of a hatchling’s wings, although not all breeds of dragons grow wings and some breeds have other traits that indicate the beginning of maturation. Once they hit adolescence, hatchlings change quickly, maturing to their full forms in only 2 years.

Dragons don’t communicate with each other verbally, but they will growl to scare off predators and frighten prey. Young dragons will emit an extremely high-pitched squeal when they are frightened. To communicate, they use telepathy with each other and to speak to other creatures.

Two-Finned Blunas are a very social breed of dragon, living in packs of dragons called "pods." Blunas are very curious and playful creatures and several dragons in a pod will often "play" with one other, chasing each other around, tossing seaweed back and forth, and riding ocean swells. They are occasionally seen swimming alongside whales and dolphins.

Kila--or Cadet Kila--Deepwings is daughter to Jagetu and Tango. Tango is an Admiral in a select group of dragons designated to defend the troupe's territory, and has thus inspired his child. Forever young at heart, Kila insists on being referred to with the affectionately bestowed title of Cadet by all, not just her father. However, if and when Kathakos approaches her for serious training, she avoids direct conversation and finds an excuse to go off and play with the other Blunas.
