Aww... It’s a cute baby dragon. It has bright blue eyes, and is as clumsy as any other hatchling, but it never seems to get injured.

And look! It has grown wings! It must be close to maturing.

Young dragons are relatively defenseless. They are born with relatively soft scales, which are shed and replaced with harder ones as the hatchling matures. Once a hatchling’s wings grow in, it typically marks the beginning of maturation. At this point they are often capable of hunting on their own and are usually left alone by their mother.

Feathers Unmarred is one of Phoenix's dragons. She is a shy little hatchling with minimal powers, but a sweet demeanor, and most dragons have a difficult time genuinely disliking her. Her powers actually can't fix anything more than a hairline fracture, but that is not usually necessary, as Feathers Drifting in the Air -- her mentor -- does most of the the medical work.

Marr is the pseudo-medic among Phoenix's hatchlings, fixing scratches and bruises when the need arises (so that Feathers can focus on more demanding tasks), and she enjoys this little job very much, identifying with and taking some small pride in it. She typically doesn't involve herself with the games of the hatchlings her age; she prefers to be a bystander. Her closest friend is Green Colt's Foot, a Yulebuck hatchling who is constantly picked on for looking like a "scaly mutton chop." The two of them get along very well, often collecting herbs or sorting papers together.
