Cheese Dragons are not actually alive. They are enchanted items of food that act almost identically to dragons. They have no need to eat, but they must “live” in humid environments or they will dry out and harden.

Fresh Parmesan is quite the protective character, whether it be of itself, or it's comrades. It doesn't fear being eaten; in fact, it generally tickles. Because it has no use for eating, it hunts just to bring back food to the adults guarding the young hatchlings.
