This hatchling appears to be... dead?

Perhaps not. It seems to be active during the night.

Young dragons are relatively defenseless. They are born with relatively soft scales, which are shed and replaced with harder ones as the hatchling matures. Once a hatchling’s wings grow in, it typically marks the beginning of maturation. At this point they are often capable of hunting on their own and are usually left alone by their mother.

The Reaper of Hearts is actually the apprentice of The Heart Thief. Most people (or Dragons) that have glimpsed him swear up and down that The Heart Thief has managed to somehow shrink himself. This is not true, they are two different dragons, and their seemingly mirrored personalities is coincidental. Those who haven't seen him believe that it's just another one of the paranoid side-effects of The Heart Thief's presence in the cave. So most put him in the same group as "the feeling that you are being watched" and "Unexplainable terror when you find yourself alone at night" The Reaper of Hearts also has a passion for watching people being tortured by The Heart Thief. He often wishes he could capture the sound of their screams so he can play it back to his first crush The Lone Reaper of Souls. This is obvious when one observes The Heart Thief and his interaction with his "daughter" and The Reaper of Hearts.
