Cheese Dragons are not actually alive. They are enchanted items of food that act almost identically to dragons. They have no need to eat, but they must “live” in humid environments or they will dry out and harden.

"You're not real. You're not even alive. You're just cheese." Those were the sneers Lunistaya heard as her bright eyes first took in the world. "I am real." The phrase that had always comforted her, the words that in her heart she knew were a lie.

The cool breeze gently brushed over her fragrant scales, whistling faintly through the holes in her wings as she lifted her head to the moon's shining face. There was so much in this world that she couldn't feel, couldn't touch, couldn't do. She would never know the thrill of flight or the cooling breeze on a hot summer's day. She would never feel the aching chill of water from the mountain stream shooting up her bones. But she knew what it felt like to be different.

As did the moon with its rare golden hue, a sight that never failed to lift Lunistaya's spirits. No matter what was said, that warm face would always be there to smile at her, reassure her. For even the most learned dragons have heard that the moon is made of cheese.
