Young dragons are relatively defenseless. They are born with relatively soft scales, which are shed and replaced with harder ones as the hatchling matures. Once a hatchling’s wings grow in, it typically marks the beginning of maturation. At this point they are often capable of hunting on their own and are usually left alone by their mother.

Sayva's life has been littered with heartbreak. It seems everywhere she turns, someone's there to chop her down. She's been in 6 clans, minus this one, and been the sole survivor of every one. As a result, she tries to dispatch herself from her clan mates so she won't form a bond. But of course, the clan's leader, Hamay, who is also a frozen hatchling, only a frill one, keeps making sure she's never alone. Sayva is the main reason the clan was formed, and if she hadn't gone through all that, you wouldn't be reading this right now. She counts as one of the clan's seven founders, and counts as the glue to hold them together.
