Ice Dragons are fierce predators who hunt using their extremely cold breath. The breath of an ice dragon can freeze its prey solid in seconds. The body of an ice dragon is so cold that icicles will form along its skin no matter the outside temperature.

Dragons are highly-intelligent reptilian creatures that—from a human perspective, at least—appear to live forever. Many different varieties of dragon exist, each with their own unique qualities, habitats, and behavior. Adolescence in dragons is usually marked by the growth of a hatchling’s wings, although not all breeds of dragons grow wings and some breeds have other traits that indicate the beginning of maturation. In Galsreim, dragons and humans coexist peacefully.

Ia was a loner from childhood, staring dreamily out of the nursery cave's mouth and wetting the nest in fear of his strange nightmares. He grew out of this as he matured, but he became more distant, which led to jokes that he was living in a different world. Many hatchlings however, believed the rumours, which were fueled by the mysterious blue mist which clung to his hide. Choosing solitude over company, Ia would stay away from other dragons, concentrating on the strange visions he received. Sometimes, he would show insight into the future, predicting what the hunters had brought back that night, and that the hatchlings had found a poisonous frog, when asked how he knew, claiming the blue mist dragon had told him. When he met Tan, who shared the dreams, he began to open up, returning to the cave and studying into their dreams, and when Daranau joined their trio, he received a dream of them summoning the blue mist dragon together, which they have attempted ever since.
