Cheese Dragons are not actually alive. They are enchanted items of food that act almost identically to dragons. They have no need to eat, but they must “live” in humid environments or they will dry out and harden.

Mr. Flippin, who considers himself male, loves to hang around the hatchies of Kanaye's cave. They are playful, friendly, and overly imaginative, just like him. At first when he began to play with the hatchies, their parents could often be heard scolding them to "Watch your language!". It took a while for them to realize their children were all talking about the same person. Now whenever their parents talk about him, it's to use him as a cautionary tale. "If you don't go to school and you don't pay attention to Mrs. MacNuggety you'll end up down in the cheese section flipping cheesies." Mr. Flippin doesn't mind being used to help the hatchies grow up, as long as he can still play with them till they do.
