Aww... It’s a cute baby dragon. Ever since it hatched, the sky has been full of very dark clouds.

And look! It has grown wings! It must be close to maturing. It’s learned to use its new wings quickly and you now have a hard time keeping it on the ground.

Young dragons are relatively defenseless. They are born with relatively soft scales, which are shed and replaced with harder ones as the hatchling matures. Once a hatchling’s wings grow in, it typically marks the beginning of maturation. At this point they are often capable of hunting on their own and are usually left alone by their mother.

Unadulterated Anger is a very grumpy frozen hatchling.  When he was brought to the cave he seemed to refuse to hatch and continued to get soft shell despite constant ministering by the scroll holder.  Upon hatching he continued to be sick.  Fearing that the worst was near it was decided to freeze him  so even though he would never grow up, he would still be alive.  Unfortunately he would have preferred death and longs for it even though the scroll holder will never grant it to him.  On a side note, another frozen hatchling is secretly in love with him.  But that is a story for another dragon to tell.
