Pillow Dragons are covered in enormous amounts of fur affectionately referred to as fluff. Despite their deceivingly large size, they can still fly even with such tiny wings because their bodies are remarkably light. Pillow Dragons have a habit of sleeping for up to eighteen hours a day, waking only in short bursts. During their few waking hours, they take the time to hunt for prey. Once a pillow dragon becomes an adult, its fur grows very slowly. Pillow dragon fur is used to make very expensive and valuable cloth known as “dragon cashmere.”

Dragons are highly-intelligent reptilian creatures that—from a human perspective, at least—appear to live forever. Many different varieties of dragon exist, each with their own unique qualities, habitats, and behavior. Adolescence in dragons is usually marked by the growth of a hatchling’s wings, although not all breeds of dragons grow wings and some breeds have other traits that indicate the beginning of maturation. In Galsreim, dragons and humans coexist peacefully.

Brian is one of the many dragons rescued and nurtured by the wide ranging clan of humans founded by AnselaJonla. His egg was found in the mountains and taken to a hatchery to be raised.

Once he matured, he found his lifemate, a Vine dragon, among the other AnselaJonla dragons. In the tradition of the flock, both dragons took the same name, Jadim, to pass down to their offspring.

Brian chose his lifemate on purpose, ignoring the warnings about the nature of her species. She was just what he wanted in a mate, someone who was just as violent and murderous as the voices in his mind urged him to be. Someone who could kill for him.

Brian provokes other dragons into a chase, intruding on their territory and taunting them until they chase him mindlessly into the jungle he calls home. He bounds through the trees, making sure he stays just in sight, until he reaches a specific clearing.

By the time they realise the danger they're in, it's too late to escape; they're staying for dinner.
