Nocturne Dragons are a strange breed. Whenever light strikes their bodies, they are frozen in whatever position they were in. This leaves them vulnerable and they rely on camouflage to keep themselves safe. They are often mistaken for statues when in this frozen state, but Nocturne dragons do not actually turn into stone. Rather, they merely idle until the sun goes down. At night, these dragons come to life, proving themselves to be powerful fliers, although little else is known about their true behavior.

Dragons are highly-intelligent reptilian creatures that—from a human perspective, at least—appear to live forever. Many different varieties of dragon exist, each with their own unique qualities, habitats, and behavior. Adolescence in dragons is usually marked by the growth of a hatchling’s wings, although not all breeds of dragons grow wings and some breeds have other traits that indicate the beginning of maturation. In Galsreim, dragons and humans coexist peacefully.

Being a rather artistic dragon, Opal may pose as a statue in a garden or a gargoyle on a building before the sun's blinding rays freeze her in place. However, during the night, she will assume her colorful and bright personalities and looks. She is a strong flier even though her head is rather heavy due to the long horns protruding just above her ears. She uses her rather short but strong tail to steer herself during her fights and to ambush sheep at night. Sometimes, to her amusement, she may also switch the places of signs to lead to the exact opposite of where they are supposed to lead. She finds this great fun and will occasionally offer a ride on her back wherever the poor travellers where going before they got lost. Her beloved is Grith Insan, another nocturne dragon. She is sure that he doesn't listen to her that much but she still loves him with her life, on account of his heart, wings and amazing singing voice. The songs of their ancestors live through him.
