Red Dragons are similar to typical story book dragons. They shoot flames, can fly, etc. However, they aren’t evil creatures as depicted in myths and won’t go around raiding castles, killing knights, or kidnapping princesses. They live in a variety of habitats, from forests to coastlines to abandoned castles, usually in warm climates, and eat whatever living creatures they can find.

Dragons are highly-intelligent reptilian creatures that—from a human perspective, at least—appear to live forever. Many different varieties of dragon exist, each with their own unique qualities, habitats, and behavior. Adolescence in dragons is usually marked by the growth of a hatchling’s wings, although not all breeds of dragons grow wings and some breeds have other traits that indicate the beginning of maturation. In Galsreim, dragons and humans coexist peacefully.

Flagra Blazebright was Ategan Fireheart's first supporter when he decided to found a new weyr.  When all of Ategan's promises about Firebright Weyr dissolved into thin air, Flagra would have been fully justified in leaving, as so many of Ategan's other supporters did, but decided to stay.  While the land Ategan had brought his followers to was hardly the fertile paradise he'd described, it wasn't a barren wasteland either, and Flagra welcomed the challenge of turning a relatively austere patch of land into a livable home.  Flagra is far more practical than her mate, Ategan, and is heavily involved in the day-to-day life of the weyr.  She could be leader, but is content to let this honor go to her mate—he's just as involved with the weyr as she is, and has a better ability to command and inspire others.
