Aww... It’s a cute baby dragon. Its eyes glow brightly at night, and it enjoys attacking insects and small animals.

And look! It has grown wings! It must be close to maturing.

Young dragons are relatively defenseless. They are born with relatively soft scales, which are shed and replaced with harder ones as the hatchling matures. Once a hatchling’s wings grow in, it typically marks the beginning of maturation. At this point they are often capable of hunting on their own and are usually left alone by their mother.

Jenkayn was always very adventurous—too much so for her own good.  She followed Myrnekal on one of his expeditions one day (quite without his knowledge and certainly without his permission), got lost, and came back greatly changed.  Now stuck permanently in a hatchling's body, Jenkayn is no longer the cheerful, carefree dragon she used to be.  Instead, she's very quiet, prone to staring off into the distance, laughing occasionally and for no apparent reason, and then making odd cryptic comments (which have an unsettling way of coming true).  When asked why she's staring off into space so intently, she merely says she's waiting (though why and for what, she refuses to say).
