Dorsal Dragons are so named because they have large fins along their backs that can be raised and lowered at will. They use these fins to regulate body temperature; they raise them to cool off when they become overheated. The bright colors on the fins double as a means of attracting mates.

Dragons are highly-intelligent reptilian creatures that—from a human perspective, at least—appear to live forever. Many different varieties of dragon exist, each with their own unique qualities, habitats, and behavior. Adolescence in dragons is usually marked by the growth of a hatchling’s wings, although not all breeds of dragons grow wings and some breeds have other traits that indicate the beginning of maturation. In Galsreim, dragons and humans coexist peacefully.

As a soldier of a group of Purple Dorsal Dragons, this male has taken the name of Soldier. He is quite young, with a rash personality and bratty nature. Soldier doesn't like being told no and there have been a few incidents where the Dorsal Dragon had temper tantrums. He's rebellious and doesn't like listening to orders, which has gotten him into trouble.

Soldier, while not very respectful to others, does look up to Leader, the leader of the group, with awe. He is ambitious, wanting to someday be the leader of the group, or at least be someone important. Sometimes, when a peace treaty has been created between the group and hostile dragons, Soldier takes it upon himself to go ambush the offending dragons. This never ends well, and Solder has had to be rescued multiple times.

While Soldier is a stubborn young dragon, he is loyal to his group and is always looking out for the members.
