Young dragons are relatively defenseless. They are born with relatively soft scales, which are shed and replaced with harder ones as the hatchling matures. Once a hatchling’s wings grow in, it typically marks the beginning of maturation. At this point they are often capable of hunting on their own and are usually left alone by their mother.

Ridiculous Lagrove Valley Frill believes that she's a Frill princess. She was adopted by the Queen Frill after the Black Queen's curse made the clan barren. Queen Cleo had always wanted a daughter, so when she found the little Ridiculous Lag baby wandering the scroll, exiled from her Grateful Dead Clan and finding refuge with no others, Cleo cast a spell as she had done with the last baby frill and adopted Lagrove into the clan. The whole Frill clan loathes blacks after their heartless queen cursed the frills, but they love and cherish Lagrove, so even when her cousin the Princess sneered and called her a dirty black dragon, Lagrove never believed it. Her heart is pure frill, just like her clan. She loves her mother, Queen Cleo, and wishes she had met her father the King before he disappeared. She lives to honor his memory and bring happiness to her mother in his absence.
