Gold dragons are the ones most often killed by humans, who consider their scales to be extremely valuable. These golden scales grant them a high level of protection, similar to armor, and they use this to their advantage in battle.

Dragons are highly-intelligent reptilian creatures that—from a human perspective, at least—appear to live forever. Many different varieties of dragon exist, each with their own unique qualities, habitats, and behavior. Adolescence in dragons is usually marked by the growth of a hatchling’s wings, although not all breeds of dragons grow wings and some breeds have other traits that indicate the beginning of maturation. In Galsreim, dragons and humans coexist peacefully.

Amber is a dragoness with a heart of gold, although most wouldn't be able to tell when meeting her for the first time. After several years trying to fight back the darkness threatening her homelands as a scout in the defense forces and ultimately failing, Amber had grown embittered and cynical to the extreme. She held a hatred for so-called "noble" dragons, such as the GoNs and metallic breeds (quite ironic considering that she herself is one) because she felt those had abandoned her and her home in their time of need, and had lost all faith in anyone but herself. When she encountered a young Olive dragoness sneaking around behind her, she forced Sesame to accompany her, just to make sure she wouldn't be attacked from behind. And then their group met Celebel and everything changed. Amber has learned to open up and trust again, at least in her comrades, her tiny new family. Now she and Celebel and their friends try to do their best to teach Sesame that same trust for the first time.
