Dragons are creatures with nearly unlimited life spans. They can survive for long periods of time, and no one has found a dragon that has died of old age. Adolescence is usually marked by the growth of a hatchling’s wings, although not all breeds of dragons grow wings and some breeds have other traits that indicate the beginning of maturation. Once they hit adolescence, hatchlings change quickly, maturing to their full forms in only 2 years.
Dragons don’t communicate with each other verbally, but they will growl to scare off predators and frighten prey. Young dragons will emit an extremely high-pitched squeal when they are frightened. To communicate, they use telepathy with each other and to speak to other creatures.
Albino dragons are so named because their translucent, scale-less skin lacks all pigment. Instead, to help protect their bodies from the sun, they are coated in an oily secretion that blocks the sun’s harmful rays. The call of an albino dragon is similar to a barn owl--a shriek instead of a roar.
Chir'Lingdar Alobnar is the only albino dragon in Moonlight Dragon Clan known to produce a roar instead of the common shriek typical to the breed. However, the practice, which he went through for days, caused him to lose his voice. The roar was the last thing he ever produced through his vocals.
When other dragons were concerned from safety of Chir'Lingdar Alobnar, knowing the importance of a voice, and a fact that he was telepathically both deaf and mute, the dragon agreed to a suggestion of the other members of the clan. A special pair of jingle bells were attached at the base of horns by the clan's caretaker. Since that day, the albino dragon has communicated through chime of the bells, or entertained the younger hatchlings with the sounds of bells.
