Aww... It’s a cute baby dragon. It’s very protective of other hatchlings.

And look! It has grown wings! It must be close to maturing.

Young dragons are relatively defenseless. They are born with relatively soft scales, which are shed and replaced with harder ones as the hatchling matures. Once a hatchling’s wings grow in, it typically marks the beginning of maturation. At this point they are often capable of hunting on their own and are usually left alone by their mother.

Too small to be of much actual use in a real crisis, this young dragon nevertheless does his best to help out people in need. He has a weak but very reliable ability to breath and manipulate fire so he has taken up the habit of patrolling the nearby human settlements in the evening—especially in winter—and helping out the weak, little, hairless mammals by lighting their candles, hearths, and fireplaces, making sure no one has to freeze or stay in the dark.
