Gold dragons are the ones most often killed by humans, who consider their scales to be extremely valuable. These golden scales grant them a high level of protection, similar to armor, and they use this to their advantage in battle.

Dragons are highly-intelligent reptilian creatures that—from a human perspective, at least—appear to live forever. Many different varieties of dragon exist, each with their own unique qualities, habitats, and behavior. Adolescence in dragons is usually marked by the growth of a hatchling’s wings, although not all breeds of dragons grow wings and some breeds have other traits that indicate the beginning of maturation. In Galsreim, dragons and humans coexist peacefully.

When a pale and weird looking hatchling came to the clan no one knew what to make of him—they didn't even know if he was a boy or a girl. As he grew up he spend time around the clan's leaders Fumee and Nick and acted as their official Fool.

During those days he had a good friend: Fitz an inbred Magi. The Fool felt a deep and passionate love for him. But when he told Fitz of his feelings the other couldn't deal with that declaration and has avoided him ever since.

As he grew up his scales darkened to a beautiful metallic shade and he grew handsome and healthy and the other dragons began to call him Lord Golden. But although they don't understand it, he misses the days when he was just 'the Fool' and he could do as he pleased without fearing what others may think of him—and when he was still close to Fitz.

Golden has travelled the lands far and wide posing as a prophet or the Lady Amber but in his heart he always searches for a way to reconcile with his one true love.
