Dorsal Dragons are so named because they have large fins along their backs that can be raised and lowered at will. They use these fins to regulate body temperature; they raise them to cool off when they become overheated. The bright colors on the fins double as a means of attracting mates.

Dragons are highly-intelligent reptilian creatures that—from a human perspective, at least—appear to live forever. Many different varieties of dragon exist, each with their own unique qualities, habitats, and behavior. Adolescence in dragons is usually marked by the growth of a hatchling’s wings, although not all breeds of dragons grow wings and some breeds have other traits that indicate the beginning of maturation. In Galsreim, dragons and humans coexist peacefully.

Mephitis Krad is a Dorsal Dragon that lives in a large cave. He leads the Generation 1 Clan of Dragons. He doesn't do much, as a leader for Generation 1 isn't needed but he gets involved during emergencies. He is an aggressive dragon and can be seen as an Anti-Hero. His mate is Limely Rascal and he plans on having multiple children. His close friends are Burnt Elusion, Neon Tails, and Aquatic Miracle. He often comes to them for advice, Burnt Elusion for battle strategies, Neon Tails for relaxing, and Aquatic Miracle for almost anything. First dragon of all the residents to be born, he had no role model and had to learn to do things himself.
