Guardian Dragons have large shields on the end of their tails. Although the shields appear to be heavy, they are light, yet nearly unbreakable. Guardian Dragons use their tail-shields, as well as their wings, to deflect attacks and protect others. Often, they will guard the eggs and hatchlings of a nest while others are away. They are generally peaceful, and will not retaliate unless necessary. They have no need to forage or hunt, as they are fed by those they protect.

Dragons are highly-intelligent reptilian creatures that—from a human perspective, at least—appear to live forever. Many different varieties of dragon exist, each with their own unique qualities, habitats, and behavior. Adolescence in dragons is usually marked by the growth of a hatchling’s wings, although not all breeds of dragons grow wings and some breeds have other traits that indicate the beginning of maturation. In Galsreim, dragons and humans coexist peacefully.

Cimmerian Illumination is the first-born child of her parents, the clan leaders and is a jewel to them. She is self-confident and strong, always making good decisions. However, it is her duty to pass on her and her parents generation, something that is highly unlikely judging by the few male dragons she has seen in her life. Her clan is small and isolated in the middle of the desert. Cimmerian has plans to create a tribe of her own where rivers flow and food is abundant but first, she must prove herself capable of such a task. One of the few flaws of this dragon may be that she is violent and uses her tail-shield as a weapon rather than a shield. The tip of her tail is sharp and deadly, she can rid a man of his head with little effort and little mess with one swipe of it. However, she has only done this once and finds she doesn't have the heart or the stomach to do it again.
