Sunset Dragons are closely related to sunrise dragons. However, their behaviors differ greatly. Sunset Dragons generally live alone or in small packs. They are more active in the evening, hunting and performing all of their daily tasks as the sun sets.

Dragons are highly-intelligent reptilian creatures that—from a human perspective, at least—appear to live forever. Many different varieties of dragon exist, each with their own unique qualities, habitats, and behavior. Adolescence in dragons is usually marked by the growth of a hatchling’s wings, although not all breeds of dragons grow wings and some breeds have other traits that indicate the beginning of maturation. In Galsreim, dragons and humans coexist peacefully.

When Zarathos first came to live among Ysera's dragons, chaos erupted. Zarathos challenged the split leader, Zantorian, for the right to command all the other dragons. To defend his position, Zantorian answered the challenge and fought Zarathos on a one-on-one duel. Zantorian emerged victorious and so retained his honor, but Zarathos was not happy with his loss and continued to disagree with the split dragon on many occasions. Finally exasperated with him, the male black dragon Mezanec, surprised everyone with an unexpected move. In a rare show of support, he and Rathmus, the male dorsal second-in-command, sided with Zantorian to face down the rogue Zarathos. Seeing as he couldn't defeat three powerful dragons, Zarathos finally swore allegiance to Zantorian and peace once more reigned in Ysera's household.
