Sunset Dragons are closely related to sunrise dragons. However, their behaviors differ greatly. Sunset Dragons generally live alone or in small packs. They are more active in the evening, hunting and performing all of their daily tasks as the sun sets.

Dragons are highly-intelligent reptilian creatures that—from a human perspective, at least—appear to live forever. Many different varieties of dragon exist, each with their own unique qualities, habitats, and behavior. Adolescence in dragons is usually marked by the growth of a hatchling’s wings, although not all breeds of dragons grow wings and some breeds have other traits that indicate the beginning of maturation. In Galsreim, dragons and humans coexist peacefully.

Rufus Sunset is a fairly shy Sunset Dragon seen only at twilight. Despite having had four children with four different mates, he is far from unfaithful—his original mate, a Bluna by the name of Crystal Illumina, spurned him for one of her own kind, so he found replacement in the form of his devoted partner Why Did I Wait Till Dark. The other two occasions he has bred were purely to take advantage of his Gold Tinsel lineage—producing offspring with beautiful double stairstep lineages, once in the case of a Gold Tinsel dragon itself. His multiple mates have, however, lead to a wide range of dragon breeds among his friends and family.

Rufus Sunset Illumina is usually found with a large group of other Sunsets—Why Did I Wait Till Dark, and his various children and grandchildren—or sometimes the Gold Tinsels whom he is proud to include in his family group. But occasionally he flies down to a certain bay to meet Crystal Illumina, whom he still holds dear to his heart.
