Black Dragons are warriors. They are strong and capable in battles of force, but also ample magic users, capable of devastating opponents with their spells. Their bright eyes give them excellent night vision, which is why they generally hunt during the night.

Dragons are highly-intelligent reptilian creatures that—from a human perspective, at least—appear to live forever. Many different varieties of dragon exist, each with their own unique qualities, habitats, and behavior. Adolescence in dragons is usually marked by the growth of a hatchling’s wings, although not all breeds of dragons grow wings and some breeds have other traits that indicate the beginning of maturation. In Galsreim, dragons and humans coexist peacefully.

Shadow, one of the oldest dragons, named herself and her mate, Fury, as rulers of all they surveyed.  She was cruel and harassed the young dragons and visitors while expanding her territory.  Once Melody came along, however, her days of torment were curbed, if not ended.  Shadow managed to make herself seem content with the way things stood once Melody established herself as matriarch, and is currently plotting how to overthrow the purple dragon to take her rightful spot as ruler.

While loyal to her mate, she has offspring fathered by various dragons, as both she and Fury were more concerned with increasing their reign as quickly as possible than with mating with just each other.
