Holiday dragons are a very mysterious breed. They are only seen during winter, and even then it is hard to catch a glimpse of one. They are responsible for the general cheer that spreads during the holidays. In essence, they are the “Spirits of Winter.”

Dragons are highly-intelligent reptilian creatures that—from a human perspective, at least—appear to live forever. Many different varieties of dragon exist, each with their own unique qualities, habitats, and behavior. Adolescence in dragons is usually marked by the growth of a hatchling’s wings, although not all breeds of dragons grow wings and some breeds have other traits that indicate the beginning of maturation. In Galsreim, dragons and humans coexist peacefully.

Shimmarion is a fat dragon who farms aurochs—a particularly large species of bovine—to provide meat for a nearby city of dragons. He loves food and feasting, and as well as the well-established holidays he is prone to make up new ones as an excuse to feast. However, he doesn't keep track of what holidays he creates, so he makes a new set every year. The only problem with this is that nobody knows when to prepare. His mate, Argentise, teases him for it, but nonetheless is his most avid supporter, going out of her way so that every dragon in town knows when Shimmarion's next feast is going to be.
