Dragons are creatures with nearly unlimited life spans. They can survive for long periods of time, and no one has found a dragon that has died of old age. Hatchlings spend a relatively long period of time as hatchlings, from 100 to 200 years, before they mature. Adolescence is usually marked by a hatchling's wings growing in, but not all breeds of dragons grow wings. Baby dragons all look very similar, but once they hit adolescence, they change very fast, they mature to their full forms in only 2 years.

Dragons don't communicate with each other verbally, but they will growl to scare off predators and frighten prey. Young dragons will emit an extremely high-pitched squeal when they are frightened. To communicate, they use telepathy with each other and to speak to other creatures.

Gray dragons are the masters of the skies. They are excellent fliers, and land only to rest and eat. In addition, they have full control of the weather. They are very hot-tempered and easily angered. They will attack any human that bothers them, conjuring strong winds and dangerous lightning.

Xirak is the second dragon to hatch under the care of Necromaster Kawazoe. He is constantly flying around, and very rarely lands. Ever since he reached maturity, the weather has reflected his mood. When he is too hot, it rains, too cold, the sun comes out. Kawazoe has learned to bring an umbrella with him when he goes with his dragon anywhere. Xirak is easy to anger, like most of his breed, but he is also mischievous. He is particularly fond of seeing just how tough Grack's skin is, Grack being another dragon in Kawazoe's care. He once dropped a large piano on her, causing her to give up her stationary nature to leave quite the scar on his nose. His mood was only dampened for a moment, when he tried again with an abandoned shack, which turned out to be an out house. He is still recovering.
