Aww... It’s a cute baby dragon. It has a large, shield-like object at the end of its tail that it uses for protection.

And look! It has grown wings! It must be close to maturing.

Young dragons are relatively defenseless. They are born with relatively soft scales, which are shed and replaced with harder ones as the hatchling matures. Once a hatchling’s wings grow in, it typically marks the beginning of maturation. At this point they are often capable of hunting on their own and are usually left alone by their mother.

Lil' Guardian was dunked in The Fountain of Freezing by Toad the minute she grew her wings because, according to Toad, she is "Much too adorable to grow up into a big, scary, Guardian!" Lil' Guardian is incredibly angry about this. Ever since she met Sipherus, the Guardian that watches over the eggs and hatchlings, Lil' Guardian had wanted to be the best, fiercest Guardian dragon ever. Instead, all she can do to be 'fierce' is nipping at the heels of the large adult dragons and getting into scuffles with the other hatchlings. Lil' Guardian hates Toad, and takes every opportunity she can to bite or scratch her.
