Dragons are creatures with nearly unlimited life spans. They can survive for long periods of time, and no one has found a dragon that has died of old age. Adolescence is usually marked by the growth of a hatchling’s wings, although not all breeds of dragons grow wings and some breeds have other traits that indicate the beginning of maturation. Once they hit adolescence, hatchlings change quickly, maturing to their full forms in only 2 years.
Dragons don’t communicate with each other verbally, but they will growl to scare off predators and frighten prey. Young dragons will emit an extremely high-pitched squeal when they are frightened. To communicate, they use telepathy with each other and to speak to other creatures.
Magi dragons are, as their name suggests, primarily magic users. They rarely use physical forms of attack. They eat anything they can kill, which is almost everything. They won’t kill unprovoked except when hunting, although they may kill humans if in danger. Their strong magic makes them one of the most feared breeds of dragons.
Even though he is highly skilled at all kinds of magic, Utei very rarely uses any, at least on purpose. This is because he is usually too inebriated to concentrate on casting spells.
He has an extraordinary fondness for alcohol and can often be found at human inns and public houses, which can be something of a mixed blessing. He always pays handsomely for the drink he consumes, but he can empty an entire wine cellar overnight and if he becomes too intoxicated, can often set the surrounding buildings alight.
When he gets into this state Utei often likes to show off and will attempt to cast various spells. Many people like to watch the dazzling lights and stars he can produce, but will flee in terror when he conjures up images of demons the size of castles.
The only one who can deal with him when he is like this is his mate Little Larxene. With one well aimed thunderbolt she can soon shock him back into sobriety and make him tidy up any mess he may have made.
