The egg faded away completely; in its place there’s a cute baby dragon. It doesn’t seem to have much substance, though.

And look! It has grown wings! It must be close to maturing.

Young dragons are relatively defenseless. They are born with relatively soft scales, which are shed and replaced with harder ones as the hatchling matures. Once a hatchling’s wings grow in, it typically marks the beginning of maturation. At this point they are often capable of hunting on their own and are usually left alone by their mother.

Vavi Nyn is often considered eccentric for her erratic sleep cycles. She has chronic nightmares about being a male ultraviolet named Vavinyn who lives in a demented region called the Submachines, and claims that when she is awake, he is asleep. Evidently there are dangerous things in the Submachines, and Nyn needs to go to sleep so that he can wake up and protect himself. Nyn doesn't fly much because of her sporadic sudden naps—she has hurt herself more times than she can count.

When not dreaming, Nyn lives in a draconic city in the northwest corner of the world and works as a beekeeper. Her smokey nature calms the bees just like wood smoke does, protecting her from many nasty stings. Because she has Peter Pan Syndrome, she will never reach adult size, but that doesn't stop her from living life to the fullest—at least, when she's not asleep with her head in the hive-box!
