Dragons are highly-intelligent reptilian creatures that—from a human perspective, at least—appear to live forever. Many different varieties of dragon exist, each with their own unique qualities, habitats, and behavior. Adolescence in dragons is usually marked by the growth of a hatchling’s wings, although not all breeds of dragons grow wings and some breeds have other traits that indicate the beginning of maturation. In Galsreim, dragons and humans coexist peacefully.

Nostrethos, once known as the great Fire Protector, is one of a sad few dragons in the valley of Kan who've wandered down the road of deceit and dishonor. Before his fall, Nostrethos was a well-to-do soul, much like the rest of Kan's dragons, but when he happened upon an ancient and bloodkept secret, shadow and want tainted his heart. He left the love and protection of the vast Kan Valley in search of a forbidden treasure, ultimately resulting in his hideous transformation. Self-exiled and alone, the once-great Nostrethos seethes and wails forever in the shadows of his hidden cave, the anguish of his folly tormenting him forever.
