Holiday dragons are a very mysterious breed. They are only seen during winter, and even then it is hard to catch a glimpse of one. They are responsible for the general cheer that spreads during the holidays. In essence, they are the “Spirits of Winter.”

Dragons are highly-intelligent reptilian creatures that—from a human perspective, at least—appear to live forever. Many different varieties of dragon exist, each with their own unique qualities, habitats, and behavior. Adolescence in dragons is usually marked by the growth of a hatchling’s wings, although not all breeds of dragons grow wings and some breeds have other traits that indicate the beginning of maturation. In Galsreim, dragons and humans coexist peacefully.

Elfi wasn't born in the harsh and hostile North. She had heard stories of her kin's demise during their annual journey yet she never seemed to care. What could harm her, after all. She was beautiful and young, her shining wings as sparkly as the purest bar of gold, her fair skin as white as unspoiled snow, her prized horns known for their brightness. She could prance and jump as gracefully as a strong-legged gazelle and was as smart as a seasoned vixen. Yet the time came. Like the countless others before her she had to follow the hollow lament of the North. Her need to trek, for the first time, stronger than her will and reason. So she went. But what came back is the true horror. What falls in the North isn't soft snowflakes but hardened ice and wind and sorrow.
