And look! It has grown wings! It must be close to maturing.

Young dragons are relatively defenseless. They are born with relatively soft scales, which are shed and replaced with harder ones as the hatchling matures. Once a hatchling’s wings grow in, it typically marks the beginning of maturation. At this point they are often capable of hunting on their own and are usually left alone by their mother.

Being a winter seasonal dragon, Melz was born a season after his father. When he looks at his parents, he sometimes doesn't believe that they are his birth parents and that they just adopted him. His mother attempts to convince him otherwise, but he doesn't believe much of what she says. Looking like neither of his parents truly bothers him, but he does not allow his feelings to affect his social life with the other hatchlings. His best friends, Skylar Drake and Raiily, know about his dilemma (though Skylar understands little of it) and he can truly express his feelings to them. To everyone else, he is a fun-loving and kind young dragon, very similar to his mother.
