Dragons are creatures with nearly unlimited life spans. They can survive for long periods of time, and no one has found a dragon that has died of old age. Adolescence is usually marked by the growth of a hatchling’s wings, although not all breeds of dragons grow wings and some breeds have other traits that indicate the beginning of maturation. Once they hit adolescence, hatchlings change quickly, maturing to their full forms in only 2 years.

Dragons don’t communicate with each other verbally, but they will growl to scare off predators and frighten prey. Young dragons will emit an extremely high-pitched squeal when they are frightened. To communicate, they use telepathy with each other and to speak to other creatures.

Gray dragons are the masters of the skies. They are excellent fliers and land only to rest and eat. In addition, they have full control of the weather. They are very hot-tempered and easily angered. They will attack any human that bothers them, conjuring strong winds and dangerous lightning.

Bolt 3 took to the skies one overcast evening, as a young adult just matured, despite her elders' warnings, and flew straight into a raging storm. Young and untrained, the storm tore into her small body.  The driving rain and raging wind ripped into her wings and threw her across the sky.

Falling and unable to right herself, earth and sky blurring into one, a claw of lightning crackled towards her plunging form.

That's when she felt something within her respond. A soft glow surrounded her form as she plunged towards the earth. A sharp crack split the air about her and a bolt of blinding light arced from her body to join the lightning reaching for her prone, falling form. Light met light, and the sky cracked open.

She was light, she was energy, she was the storm.

She returned to the den the next day ragged, beat up, and storm-tossed, glowing with pride.

She takes great joy in life, and creating life. She hopes one day to have more children than all the other mothers in the den.
