Aww... It’s a cute baby dragon. Its eyes glow brightly at night, and it enjoys attacking insects and small animals.

And look! It has grown wings! It must be close to maturing.

Young dragons are relatively defenseless. They are born with relatively soft scales, which are shed and replaced with harder ones as the hatchling matures. Once a hatchling’s wings grow in, it typically marks the beginning of maturation. At this point they are often capable of hunting on their own and are usually left alone by their mother.

Styvell is a reject, rejected by parents and rejected by his breeder. As an unfrozen hatchling, he was subject to numerous terrors that should have never been seen by a such a little creature, yet he marched on in hopes of finding a loving home. Eventually, his efforts were rewarded, and Styvell found his new home in the arms of a little boy wizard, who practiced magic with Styvell until he was frozen. This was a practice spell by the very same wizard, who wanted to keep Styvell small so he could be an easier companion to care for. Styvell didn't mind it one bit; he'd rather be forever a baby than disappoint his beloved caretaker.
