Magi Dragons are, as their name suggests, primarily magic users. They rarely use physical forms of attack. They eat anything they can kill, which is almost everything. They won’t kill unprovoked except when hunting, although they may kill humans if in danger. Their strong magic makes them one of the most feared breeds of dragons.

Dragons are highly-intelligent reptilian creatures that—from a human perspective, at least—appear to live forever. Many different varieties of dragon exist, each with their own unique qualities, habitats, and behavior. Adolescence in dragons is usually marked by the growth of a hatchling’s wings, although not all breeds of dragons grow wings and some breeds have other traits that indicate the beginning of maturation. In Galsreim, dragons and humans coexist peacefully.

Merlin's Shadow is a magi dragon. He is rather mysterious and prefers to use his magic for things besides teleporting. Although he can be seen occasionally helping Merlin's Spirit teleport dragons to difficult-to-reach places, most of the time, other dragons have no idea where he is. Merlin's Shadow is responsible for lighting up caves of his clan's other dragons by using magically powered runes that glow brightly. Also, although he does guard around the cave, he prefers to go to his spot deep in the forest near his clan's gathering area, where he uses ancient runes to store his magical energy for later use. He is also an excellent freezer, and although he does not particularly like doing it, he will freeze hatchlings upon their request.
