Vampire Dragons are members of the undead. They sustain themselves by drinking the blood of others. It is said that they are only “alive” at night, and seem dead or asleep during the day, as they cannot endure sunlight for long periods of time. Vampire Dragons can only reproduce by changing the eggs of other dragons, puncturing the shell with their fangs and injecting venom that kills the baby inside.

Dragons are highly-intelligent reptilian creatures that—from a human perspective, at least—appear to live forever. Many different varieties of dragon exist, each with their own unique qualities, habitats, and behavior. Adolescence in dragons is usually marked by the growth of a hatchling’s wings, although not all breeds of dragons grow wings and some breeds have other traits that indicate the beginning of maturation. In Galsreim, dragons and humans coexist peacefully.

When Mallaich's egg was bitten, his father did not hesitate kicking it out of the cave. Mallaich hatched as his egg was shattered on the mountainside, exposing the tiny hatchling within. He instinctively hid in a small crevice to hide from the rising sun, awaiting nightfall. That first night was the hardest of his life. Weak because he had hatched too early he had to feed, but even mice were too difficult a prey for him. As he lay down exhausted, a dark shadow swept overhead and suddenly lifted him off the ground. Mionn had come to claim her own.

Mallaich has grown up hateful and resentful, with a deep grudge against his own family for forsaking him so bitterly, particularly his father. Surely there could be no worse punishment for the proud Silver than seeing egg after egg turned into the monsters he so abhors. Now Mallaich lurks night after night outside his family's cave, waiting for an opportunity to exact his revenge: to create another like himself.
