Aww... It’s a cute baby dragon. It sleeps a lot, but when it’s awake, it’s quite a handful.

And look! It has grown wings! It must be close to maturing.

Young dragons are relatively defenseless. They are born with relatively soft scales, which are shed and replaced with harder ones as the hatchling matures. Once a hatchling’s wings grow in, it typically marks the beginning of maturation. At this point they are often capable of hunting on their own and are usually left alone by their mother.

Concerned that her mentor was growing lonely during long hours of magically transcribing notes and writing stories, Mathcat's Apprentice presented her with a frozen pillow hatchling.  Mathcat's Little Helper, sadly, doesn't really live up to her name, as she's entirely too fond of knocking over stacks of scrolls, playing with the magically writing quill, and curling up for a nap on whatever Mathcat Inktalon is trying to read.  Still, she's good company for the magi, and her worst destructive efforts can usually be thwarted with the right spell.
