Dragons are creatures with nearly unlimited life spans. They can survive for long periods of time, and no one has found a dragon that has died of old age. Adolescence is usually marked by the growth of a hatchling’s wings, although not all breeds of dragons grow wings and some breeds have other traits that indicate the beginning of maturation. Once they hit adolescence, hatchlings change quickly, maturing to their full forms in only 2 years.

Dragons don’t communicate with each other verbally, but they will growl to scare off predators and frighten prey. Young dragons will emit an extremely high-pitched squeal when they are frightened. To communicate, they use telepathy with each other and to speak to other creatures.

Feisty and energetic, whiptail dragons pride themselves on their speed and agility. It is not unusual to see several whiptails racing each other. Though fragile, they can easily evade attacks with their superior speed, and often use their long tails as a weapon, giving rise to their name.

Velocita is small for his breed, but this doesn't affect his speed at all. His name comes from the Italian word for "speed" and he certainly lives up to it. He is constantly challenging other Dragons to races and games. He's a little bit of a cheater, and sometimes tries to con those who are slower or don't even have wings into his games. Most of his friends are onto him though, and try and keep him from hustling too many unsuspecting Mint dragons!
